Gallery

The Gallery is a virtual view of my art past and present, some are for sale, some have been sold, some were commissions and some I have in my own home.

Barn Owl

The original painting hangs in our house, and it was an early experiment with charcoal, watercolour and acrylic paint on canvas.

Prints in various sizes are available here

Pheasant

This was a commission painting for a friend of mine who lives in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire. The piece originated from a canvas I had been doing experimental work on with colour splashes, it was put to one side until the commission for a pheasant. I was pleased with the background giving a sense of the bird in undergrowth, keeping a watchful eye out!

Many of my paintings have started their lives as different things, I often revisit canvases and create different paintings on top.

Apple

This piece I created for us to compliment a new kitchen, I had a colour scheme in mind and this image created a ‘pop’ in the room. I wanted it to be abstract but have a familiar image that you might find in a kitchen, this again was an over painting over a previous image. I used charcoal to sketch the image, part of the underpainting can be seen the pink bottom right, I then used oil pastels to draw on the canvas and give the image depth, the final image was created with oil paint.

The original may be available for sale at some point this year, 2021.

This image was used in ‘British Vogue’ as part of an advertising campaign.

Ferns

I love the drama and intricacy of ferns and variety of colours as they go through their growth and decay.

This painting was done very much from memory, how I think of ferns and the images they create in my mine with shape and colour.

I painted in oils on a red background to give a warm feel to the painting and it allowed the greens and oranges to shine out.

This painting was part of the 2019 Summer Exhibition at Oriel Plas Glyn Y Weddw, Llanbedrog. It is now privately owned.

Blue Jug

This is a large canvas, 122 x 90 cm, that now hangs in our kitchen. The background to the painting was already created from a previous painting in purple, pink and blue.

The painting is done in acrylics where the need for speed is essential as they dry very quickly, this gave me the movement in the picture, creating a fictional scene of flowers toppling over a round vase, falling onto the blue jug.

Gunnera

This painting was inspired by the Gunnera in the gardens at Penrhyn Castle, Bangor. I worked in oil paint looking at photographs of plants and leaves taken at my visits to the gardens, I like to observe the images and then work the painting in my own way taking artistic license with the composition, shape and colour palette.

This painting was part of the 2019 Summer exhibition at Plas Glyn Y Weddw, Llanbedrog and featured in ‘British Vogue’ as an advertising campaign here, It is now owned privately.

Stag in Rain

I did this painting in 2018 at the request of my oldest daughter who wanted an image of a stag for her new home, she had a colour scheme in mind and knew the kind of look she wanted.

I sketched out the initial image in acrylic paint and as with all commissions I do, I checked with her at each stage that she was happy with the paintings progress.

Snowdrops

This painting hangs in our lounge, I love snowdrops and especially the banks of them you see in early spring. I really like the contrast of burnt orange and blue, it creates a warm but dramatic effect. The medium is oil paint on canvas, the under drawing was done in charcoal and the bulk of the painting was done with a palette knife.

Stocks in Black - Geranium Pot - Through the Tulips

These 3 paintings I did one after the other, all were created in oil paint on box canvas and the first one Through the Tulips was inspired by taking photos through planters of tulips outside my friends shop. I wanted to get the shape, colour and interaction of the flowers without them being arranged in a vase. This painting hangs in our home.

Geranium Pot came next, I love geraniums and like to have them in terracotta pots. This painting is owned by a good friend and makes me smile to think of it hanging in her home.

Stocks in Black is influenced by the artist Shani Rhys James, I love her dramatic style and use of colour. This painting will be for sale this year, 2021.

These paintings were part of the 2019 Summer Exhibition at Oriel Plas Glyn Y Weddw, Llanbedrog.

Across the Sea

This painting was again painted over a previous canvas, it is painted in acrylics with an acrylic medium grain gel added to parts to create texture on the canvas. I worked quickly using palette knife and plastic card to create sweeps of colour and movement especially in the sky. This is a fictional view inspired by my many sketches and photos looking across the Menai Strait to the Snowdonia mountains.

This painting may be available for sale later in the year 2021.

Irish Cow

This painting was a commission and now hangs in the kitchen of a good friend.

I came up with the background first and felt it would be a good ground for an Irish cow!

The painting is in acrylic paint on a box canvas.

It's great to get photos of happy customers, this is one of a print on box canvas.

Mountain Scape

This is a fictional mountain scape, oil paint on box canvas.

This painting will be for sale later in the year.

Hurstwood Hall Tulips

This picture was inspired by a photo of a friends garden, they have a beautiful guesthouse in Lancashire.

I started this painting at the beginning of 2020, as the first lockdown hit I put it to one side to concentrate on sewing ‘scrub’ bags for the NHS. We moved house before Christmas 2020 and when unpacking canvases I came across this picture and decided the time was right to finish it.

This is an oil painting on canvas, 92 x 61 cm, it has some artistic license in the composition but the star feature remains, the beautiful tulips grown by Mark and David.

Scattered

This image is painted on top of a previous painting, it was taken from a photograph I took of scattered tulips and hyacinths.

I wanted to create a more dramatic display of the flowers picking up on negative space, shapes and colour.

The painting is mixed media; acrylic paint, oil paint and oil pastel, it is on box canvas 120 x 50 cm.

Price £600

3 Pots

This still life was painted in oils on box canvas, it depicts 3 pots of succulents on my shiny kitchen surface. The reflections and shadows are just as interesting to me in their shape and design as the pots.

This will be available for sale later in 2021.

Peonies

Peonies are one of my favourite flowers, I love the buds as much as the flowers, they create drama in the garden and in the vase and these flowers gave a gorgeous scent.

In this still life a wanted to depict the whole scene of the reflections of the vase and flowers and the shapes they created. This painting was part of the Summer Exhibition at Oriel Plas Glyn y Weddw 2019.

The painting is in oils on block canvas and will be available for sale later in 2021.

Horse Face

This painting I did for our home, it now hangs high in our kitchen, it is a large canvas painted in acrylic paint.

I don’t own a horse but have always been drawn to them, I have done a number of ‘horse’ commissions and like to try and capture personality in the image.

Blush Peony

This painting is oil on box canvas, my obsession with peonies continues. This still life is uplifting and fun and would make a splash in any room.

This work will be available for sale later in 2021.
